Hello All:
I just wanted to blog about Guntown Mountain Theme Park/Fun Park, which is located in Cave City, Kentucky. I have been there to Guntown Mountain multiple times and the last time that I was actually physically there was back in 2004. I really have fond memories of being at Guntown Mountain, especially before the fire that burned some of the buildings there at the place. One of my fondest memories is of my mother's whole family going up to Guntown Mountain with my late maternal grandfather (who was legally blind and almost totally deaf at the time) back in 1991-1992. My mom's one sister, Debbie actually took this really wonderful photo of Poppaw (who was Debbie and my mom's dad) with all of Poppaw's current grandchildren (at the time) as we were all lined up on this one porch of the saloon there at Guntown Mountain. I just wish that I knew what happened to that photo that Debbie took, because I would really love to have it just blown up and then duplicated, so I could give it to some of my cousins who were alive back then (in 1991-1992) of all of us with Poppaw.
Back in 2004, when I went up to Guntown Mountain, it was with a twinge of sadness, because my beloved grandfather, Poppaw had just passed away a month or so previous. All of those wonderful memories of my late grandfather being up there at the theme park came flooding back and I just couldn't stop thinking about Poppaw. I remember telling my fiance at the time, (of course, he's now my husband) that the last time that I had been up at the top of Guntown Mountain was back then with my family and how Poppaw really got a good laugh at his oldest son, (who is my mom's older brother) during the can-can show. Why Poppaw was laughing at his oldest son was because those can-can girls got my uncle up on the stage and sang to my uncle. I think that my uncle wanted to die of embarrassment at first, but after a while, my uncle thought that it was funny, because of the way that the can-can girls were making over my uncle.
Here is some of the photos of when my fiance and I were at Guntown Mountain back in 2004 above. I hope that you enjoy looking at these photos. These photos are of the street up at Guntown Mountain; the can-can show with the girls singing songs; among other things.
Incidentally, I highly recommend going to Guntown Mountain, especially if you have children or a whole family that you'd like to entertain in a "Family friendly" type way. Guntown Mountain also offers a magic show between the can-can shows and the magic show (from what I remember) was a little on the hokey side, but really cute (and family friendly at the same time!!) The actual ride up to the top of the mountain is done in one of two ways: you can either ride up there on the chair lift or you can ride up on an actual tram (which is like a slow moving train) up the side of the actual mountain itself.
The view from the top of the actual Guntown Mountain looking towards Cave City, Kentucky itself is pretty amazing, so I highly recommend going up there, if for no other reason to keep the kiddies entertained and take an amazing "Bird's eye view" of Cave City, Kentucky and the surrounding area. I really look forward to going back down there to Cave City, Kentucky to go back up to Guntown Mountain to spend time with my husband and my parents later on this year. I also recommend anybody who will be heading down to Cave City to go through Mammoth Cave National Park to stop by Guntown Mountain (which you can see from I-60) and pay Guntown Mountain a visit.
